Chasing ‘Ohana: Explore Lilo & Stitch Filming Locations on O‘ahu
Disney’s Lilo & Stitch captured hearts when it first hit screens in 2002 — the quirky, heartfelt story of a young Hawaiian girl, Lilo, and her mischievous blue alien, Stitch (Experiment 626), finding family (‘ohana) where they least expected it. Now, the 2025 live-action remake brings the beloved duo back, with breathtaking shots of O‘ahu framing every moment. The new film isn’t just a retelling— it’s a visual love letter to O‘ahu itself, even though the story is set on Kaua‘i.
If you’re curious about Lilo & Stitch filming locations, or maybe feeling inspired to plan a trip to see those turquoise waters and green valleys for yourself, you’re in the right place. We’ll take a look at where this movie came to life — and how you can experience these beautiful locations on your own Hawaiian adventure.

Kualoa Ranch: The Pelakai Home
First up on our list of Lilo & Stitch filming locations is the lush green valley where Lilo and Nani’s house sits — Kualoa Ranch. Known for its dramatic scenery and frequent film appearances, Kualoa Ranch brings the spirit of old Hawai‘i to life. Visitors can walk the same grounds as countless Hollywood productions — and yes, you can add a Kualoa Ranch tour to any of our O‘ahu all-inclusive packages.
Lilo & Stitch Filming Location: The Kahala Hotel & Resort
Formerly known as the Kahala Mandarin Oriental, the Kahala Hotel & Resort plays a key role in the new film, featuring scenes set in its lobby, guest rooms, the pool deck, and even with the resort’s famous resident dolphins. The Kahala isn’t just a movie set for me personally — my brother and his wife were married there in 2019. Growing up, we’d visit for the incredible buffet at Plumeria Beach House, a longtime favorite. Fun fact: the Kahala also has ties to another Hollywood classic — it was once a backdrop for the Kamehameha Club in the original Magnum P.I.
While this stunning property isn’t included in our all-inclusive Oahu packages — we find most travelers prefer staying in central Waikīkī — it’s still worth a visit. Guests can stop for a meal at the Plumeria Beach House or even add a swim-with-dolphins experience — just let us know and we’ll be happy to assist you!
Waikīkī Beach: A Classic Welcome
Waikīkī Beach has long been Hawai‘i’s most famous shoreline — and in both the original animated Lilo & Stitch and the new live-action remake, you’ll catch glimpses of this iconic stretch. With its calm waves and Diamond Head framing the background, Waikīkī captures the vibrant, welcoming spirit of the islands. Even if you’ve never visited before, the sight of surfers gliding along waves in front of the colorful skyline feels instantly familiar — pure aloha.
Lilo & Stitch Filming Location: Hale‘iwa Town
Scenes set in Lilo’s laid-back hometown were filmed in Hale‘iwa, the iconic North Shore surf town. Cholo’s Homestyle Mexican Restaurant, located in the North Shore Marketplace, was the filming location for one of the most light-hearted sequences in Lilo & Stitch. Stitch is up to mischief as Nani is applying for a job, and hilarious antics ensue. If you’re looking for a casual meal full of good food and island character, it’s a delicious stop as you explore the surrounding area. Keep an eye out for the wild chickens roaming the parking lot!
Makaha Beach: Surfing Scenes
The powerful waves and wide sandy stretch of Makaha Beach made it the perfect location for the movie’s surf sequences. Known for its deep local roots and surf culture, Makaha offers a glimpse of authentic beach life away from the tourist crowds — just as the movie reflects the quieter, real side of island life.
Kalaniana‘ole Highway: Scenic Drives
Continuing on with Lilo & Stitch filming locations are the sweeping ocean views of Kalaniana‘ole Highway. This scenic coastal road passes Hanauma Bay, Sandy Beach, and the Halona Blowhole. It’s one of the most beautiful drives on the island — and a reminder that on O‘ahu, the journey is often as stunning as the destination.
Lilo & Stitch Filming Location: Germaine’s Luau
“Jimmy’s Luau” in the film was shot at none other than Germaine’s Luau on the west side of O‘ahu. Our packages featured Germaine’s for decades, and it’s still an option for guests who want a truly Hawaiian evening — think hula dancers, fire knife performances, and kalua pig under the stars.
Diamond Head: The Heart of O‘ahu
The towering crater of Diamond Head is one of the most recognizable filming locations in Lilo & Stitch, and it make a few memorable appearances. Beyond its postcard looks, Diamond Head is a symbol of O‘ahu itself — a place where rugged natural beauty meets the island’s deep history. Hiking to the summit offers panoramic views that stretch from Waikīkī to the horizon.
Fun Fact About the Cast
The live-action remake also brought back a familiar face: Hawai‘i’s own Tia Carrere. In the new film, she plays the stern but caring social worker, a fun nod considering she originally voiced Nani — Lilo’s big sister — in the 2002 animated feature. I still vividly remember watching Carrere in True Lies at the old Waikīkī 1 & 2 Theater on Seaside Avenue back the ’90s— she was unforgettable on the big screen then, and she’s just as memorable now.

Whether you’re chasing ‘ohana, adventure, or just some well-earned beach time, O‘ahu’s magic — the same magic that brought Lilo & Stitch to life — is waiting for you.
